Social reading is an Internet-based activity in which a group of people collaboratively reads, annotates, and comments upon a shared text. It can be carried out synchronously or asynchronously and at any level of language proficiency, L1 or L2, when accompanied by level-appropriate tasks and assessment. Social reading is not meant to replace solitary reading but to complement it by scaffolding a broader range of literacy skills, strategies, and motivations. This webinar provides partcipants the opportunity to experience social reading, learn the affordances of the practice, envision application in their curricula, and gain access to resources for implementation.
