Generations of language educators have used authentic literary texts in foreign language classrooms, and with the recent move toward more "real-life" oriented tasks, this practice remains central to the mission of educating confident speakers of foreign languages. Using Russian literaure in the second half of Intensive Russian has proven to be a very rewarding, even if sometimes challenging, practice.

This talk with Marina Potoplyak and Katya Cotey from the Department of Slavic and Eurasian Studies will cover practical strategies for incorporating authentic literary texts into intensive language curriculum. It will also focus on increasing students' cultural expertise and breaking down psychological barriers in their interactions with authentic materials.
