Foreign Languages and the Literary in the Everyday

The FLLITE project, a collaboration of CERCLL (University of Arizona) and COERLL,  helps to bridge the language/literature divide found in many foreign language programs by providing examples of successful L2 literacy-based lessons and aiding instructors in designing their own. Rather than focusing on canonical literature, the lessons focus on the poetics of everyday language (e.g., conversations, letters, blogs, YouTube videos, etc.). FLLITE lessons develop language awareness in tandem with communicative abilities through the integration of reading, listening, speaking, and writing tasks.  By developing their lessons for publication as open educational resources (OER) in dialogue with members of the project’s editorial board, lesson authors are supported in their professional learning as not only materials consumers but also creators.
